If you’re under the age of 80, this is probably the first time you’ve lived through a history defining moment that will change the world forever. In a matter of a few weeks, the coronavirus has catapulted us out of our cosy existence into a new reality where our health or that of our loved ones could fall foul to one of the most contagious viruses known in modern times.
Not only that, the very systems we unquestionably believe in are crumbling around us. Many livelihoods have disappeared, people are either completely alone and cannot be visited due to enforced isolation, or are being driven mad by their family in 24/7 confinement. Needless to say for many, stress levels are extremely high.
So, it’s more important than ever to look after our mental and physical health, finding innovative ways to keep both our body and our minds on the level. Step in CBD oil - the 100% natural extract derived from hemp that many people say helps support their physical and emotional wellbeing.
1. Stress Support
Humans don’t do well with uncertainty and right now we’re living in unprecedented uncertain times. We never know what the future holds, but when a real possibility exists that we could catch a potentially deadly virus - that is pretty scary and unsurprisingly causes us to feel stressed. Throw in the very real stresses currently being faced by many such as job loss, bereavement, social isolation or spending too much time with our nearest and dearest, and it’s little wonder the nation’s mental health could also be a casualty of the current pandemic.
It’s vital then to find ways to manage this stress. Techniques such as meditation can help keep us centred in the here and now, as do limiting our exposure to the news and social media. CBD oil is a great way to supplement these tried and tested stress-reduction tools.
With all this worrying about how our lives will be affected by the fallout of the virus, it’s little surprise many people are experiencing sleep disruption. If you’re like me, scrolling through Facebook or news feeds before bedtime certainly does help get a decent night’s sleep, but adding some CBD oil into your self-care routine can also be a good idea.
If this is the first time you’re trying CBD, don’t take it just before you go to bed, as for some it can actually make them feel more alert. Just try a couple of drops a few hours before bedtime, or you could even try out our hemp tea, which beats chamomile hands down for getting you in the mood for a few quality ZZZs.
3. Support Your Endocannabinoid System
Why would I want to support something I’ve never heard of, you may ask. Making sure our endocannabinoid system (ECS) is working like a well-oiled machine is extremely important right now. That’s because our ECS (comprising receptors in our brains, central nervous system, immune system and organs which are activated by cannabis-like chemicals made by the body) acts like the conductor in our body’s orchestra keeping all our physiological activity in balance.
So if we want to feel calm, sleep well, have a healthy appetite, be free from pain, and stop worrying quite so much, we need our ECS to be fighting fit. Plus, our ECS plays a key role in regulating our immune system.
However, eating junk food, drinking too much alcohol, sleeping too little, and being stressed can impair its function. Therefore, it’s likely at the moment, our ECS might need a little helping hand to do its job. So while eating well and cutting down on the booze may help our it work better, supplementing our diets with CBD oil will also support our ECS.
4. Hemp Instead of Alcohol to Unwind
There were a few raised eyebrows when off-licenses were added to the list of essential shops to remain open during the coronavirus crisis. But for many, a glass of wine or a beer is the go-to route to relaxation; particularly now all the pubs and bars have been closed.
Now, we’re certainly not expecting you all to go alcohol-free during this extremely stressful time, but studies do show excessive alcohol consumption can cause greater susceptibility to pneumonia and acute respiratory stress syndromes - both of which can manifest in the latter stages of Covid-19 - the disease caused by the virus.
Not only that, when tensions are running high in a household, drinking alcohol can sometimes worsen rather than abate negative feelings, particularly when there’s nowhere you can escape to. All of which are valid reasons to look for a more benign (and sober) way to unwind, such as having a hemp flower tea or a few drops of CBD oil.
If you’re thinking about trying CBD, it’s important to choose a quality and safe CBD product. Our Spirit of Hemp CBD oil range is extracted from organic hemp and comes with lab tests proving not only CBD content, but that they are free from nasty pollutants and mould.
